Huayu Automation - Technical Difference Between Screen Printing and Offset Printing
What is the difference between screen printing and offset printing? Which is better, screen printing and offset printing? What is the technical difference between screen printing and offset printing?
First of all, let's clarify the two basic concepts of screen printing and offset printing:
1. What is silk screen?
Screen printing belongs to stencil printing, and it is called the four major printing methods together with flat printing, embossing and gravure printing. Perforated printing includes transcription, perforated pattern, spray and screen printing. The principle of stencil printing is: the printing plate (the perforations that can pass ink are made on the base of the paper film plate or other plates). When printing, the ink is transferred to the substrate (paper, ceramics, etc.) through the perforations of the stencil under a certain pressure ) to form an image or text.
2. What is offset printing?
Offset printing is a type of lithographic printing. Simply speaking, offset printing is a printing method in which the graphics on the printing plate are transferred to the substrate by means of rubber (blanket). It is also the existence of the blanket. The blanket plays an irreplaceable role in printing, such as: it can make up for the unevenness of the substrate surface, so that the ink can be fully transferred, and it can reduce the water on the printing plate (see below for the role of water in printing) ) to the substrate and so on. The above is just a general concept. We usually say that the scope of offset printing is narrower, that is, the lithographic printing method with three cylinders (plate, blanket, and imprint). In the south of China, this printing method is called for offset printing.
3. How to distinguish between silk printing and offset printing?
The biggest difference between silk printing and offset printing is:
(1). The screen printed has no dots, and the offset printed has dots, which can be seen by looking at the light diagonally.
(2). The silk screen is generally heavier. Look carefully, there will be some uneven edges, and the offset printing is relatively regular, horizontal and vertical.
(3). All images (such as colorful pictures) can only be offset printing, not silk printing.
(4). Common single-color simple graphics and text can be screen printed. Some small prints will have some rough edges and you can see them carefully.
